our mission

vegan plant-based education free to the public

To educate Texans through public activities, events, and educational outreach about the benefits of a plant-based diet as a way to improve health, preserve the environment, and protect animals.

For our Health

Texas ranks high for diabetes and obesity. We want to help reduce the states rates by showcasing vegan plant-based food sources and providing educational resources.

For the Animals

We want to help Texas reduce harmful and unsustainable animal practices by sharing education and resources to help decrease dependence on animal industries.

For the environment

Texas already leads the nation in wind power. We want to help Texans preserve the environment even more by presenting additional ways to help reduce its carbon footprint.

Public donations and booth payments are how we fund Texas VegFest and keep it a free resource to the public. Event overhead in the Austin area can reach over $100,000. Help us keep Texas VegFest a free event and help cover our event expenses, donate today!

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL AND its organizer

Texas VegFest is organized by the Texas Veg Foundation, a federal 501c3 nonprofit organization.

The Texas Veg Foundation is a four-member volunteer group of Austin vegans.

Texas Veg Foundation is a federally recognized educational nonprofit organization, 501(c)(3).

To educate Texans through public activities, events, and educational outreach about the benefits of a plant-based diet as a way to improve health, preserve the environment, and protect animals.

To provide free public education resources on the animal preservation, health, and environmental benefits of vegan plant-based diets.

Texas is home to some of the higher diabetes, obesity, and heart disease rates in the country.

The leading cause of death in Texas is heart disease (National Rankings, Heart Map). Texas is ranked 12th in Obesity with 35.8% of our adult population,15.9% of children 2 – 4, and 20.3% of children 10 – 17 living with obesity (National Ratings, Texas Data). Diabetes rates in Texas are higher than the national average with 12.6% of Texans being diagnosed (National and state data).

Texas is also the top cattle producing state in the United States. These same factory farms have a heavy toll on our environment, perpetuate food waste which increases greenhouse gases, and place animals in unacceptable conditions of crowding that don’t allow animals to walk, stretch their limbs, or even turn around.

With these numbers, we created Texas Veg Foundation to provide access to educational resources helpful in combating the current data in our communities in order to build a healthier, more sustainable, and compassionate Texas. Texas Veg Foundation incorporated July 1st, 2011.

The first Texas Veg Fest was March 31st, 2012!

Providing free public education allows resources to get to as many people in need as possible.

We collect participation fees from sponsors, vendors, and nonprofits to cover the majority of our event budget.

Public donations at event entrances, and private donations though our website, help cover our free educational resources, lectures, demonstrations, and youth activities.

Help us to continue to reach our goal, DONATE or PARTICIPATE today!
